Boyce Gibson Memorial Library
At Melbourne, there are two main libraries for philosophers: the University's Baillieu Library (including the Institute of Education Resource Centre), which is open to all members of the University, and the School of Philosophy's own Gibson Memorial Library, which is open to philosophy students and staff.
- Location: Room G08, Old Quad (Building 150)
- Hours: 9am–1pm, 2:15pm–5pm
The Gibson is not organised according to the Dewey system; its books are grouped according to subject matter or historical classification (e.g. Ethics, Epistemology, Ancient Greek Philosophy, etc.), and then alphabetically according to author within each section. The Gibson also contains journals, as well as photocopied articles and chapters for specific philosophy courses.
Non-reserve books (excluding journals) may be borrowed for one week. A photocopier (which takes the Unicard swipe card) is available to students in the photocopier room adjacent to the Philosophy Office. Spare copies of lecture handouts are also kept in this room.
